FOR THE IMPATIENT (QUICK NOTES);
1. SET NETWORK PROVIDER TO MANUAL.
2. DO NOT LEAVE Wi-Fi TURNED ON.
THIS IS THE STORY;
5 days in after I have received a new HTC Touch clone I have come up with a few issues.
1. The back cover doesn't quiet fit properly and overhangs at the top making it harder to access the power button.
2. I can't seem to get the temperature display working. All I have is two tabs the "home" and the "quick launch" icon menu.
3. I had loads of problems using Microsoft Active Sync I worked out Zonealarm (Zone Alarm) had to be turned off or manually add Active Sync to the programs list as there was no automatic prompts from Zonealarm.
4. This is the most annoying problem of all and I am still trying to troubleshoot. The phone turns off when charging either off the wall plug or the USB on the computer. I have tried unticking (untick) the to options in the advanced power settings on the phone, but everytime I click ok and then go back to check the power settings the tick boxes are still ticked. Happened for awhile and then didn't which makes me think I got two batteries with the phone and maybe there is some kind of problem with one of the batteries as this is the only thing that is changing. I have marked the batteries and going to swap them around over the next couple of days and see if this has an affect.
Anyways so far money for bang, this is the best phone I have every seen or used.
Swaping the batteries didn't fix the problem.
ReplyDeleteI found another possible solution after abit of searching for the problem I am having with the phone turning off.
ReplyDeleteHERE IS THE FIX:
on your HTC Touch
go to
start->settings->today->items
uncheck the today timeout box and press OK on top of the screen.
and the same follows for HTC diamond
HERE IS HOW IT WORKS:
The people who designed this software are not from microsoft , HTC customized this phone and added this feature in order to save battey life and go to the home screen after the screen is turned off and on.
okay what do i mean from that?
suppose you have currently opened file explore, and u leave ur phone for a brief period of inactivity (in this case the screen automatically turns off) or you turn the screen off manually to save battery life. The TODAY TIMEOUT enables the phone to return to home screen after the time checked at the TODAY TIMEOUT box is complete.
that means, the phone automatically returns to home screen from the file explorer after the time u have specified in the TODAY TIMEOUT box (default value is 4 hours) with respect to the above case.
But here is the probem, enabling the TODAY TIMEOUT have a series of conflicts and unresolved bug issues. What i mean here is the .dll file in the windows program files that enables sleep mode ,designed by microsoft(default in windows mobile 6 professional) have few bugs unresolved but they dont cause any problems.
But when HTC customised the phones software, this problem is highlighted and the conflict between the .dll file of the windows and the code written for TODAY TIMEOUT conflicts.
That means you dont have any problem untill the phones screen is on , for a few minutes but once the phone screen is off(in a sleep mode), after a few minutes, the system completly shuts down , because the code which enables recovery from sleep mode is never executed.
Finally found the solution for the problem of the phone not coming out of sleep mode.
ReplyDeleteAfter ringing HTC Australia I found out my phone is not a clone, but the phone is built for Windows Hong and someone has installed a pirated version of ENGLISH windows 6.0 and therefore things like touchflo, the temperature display and other features are missing.
HTC was unable to take me through a fix because my version of Windows differed to their version, but after playing around with some settings I stumbled on the solution.
FIX:
Start > Settings > Phone (icon) > Network (tab) > Change Network Selection to "Manual" > Choose your phone provider from the pop up click "ok" > Click on Select Networks > When the list appears click on "Ok" > Finished!!!
What you should be seeing along the way is the status box saying "getting network settings". My phone is no longer going into SOD (sleep of death), I confirmed this is the solution by changing the network selection from back from Manual to Automatic and the SOD comes straight back.
Note it will sometimes take 1 to 2 minutes for the phone to find new networks whilst you are changing as above.
It has been about 6 months now and have still got the phone although because of the microphone sounding like I am in a toilet and people not hearing me very well I am only using the phone as a PDA.
ReplyDeleteThe power off issue has been fully test drived now and it is clear two issues cause the SOD (sleep of death) Firstly as above changing the search network provider from Automatic to Manual will fix the first problem. Secondly leaving the Wi-Fi turned on will 80% of the time put the phone into SOD.
