Like me if you are visiting this site then you are getting an error message from Windows Media Player when you try and play DVD's right!
If you go to the microsoft website it will tell you that you need to purchase another media program so that you can get the necessary codecs and then gives you a list of about 5 programs like WinDVD and Roxio.. YOU DO NOT NEED TO PURCHASE THIS SOFTWARE.
After 20 minutes of playing around I came up with this free SOLUTION.
As Microsoft says you need codecs (this is simply small piece/s of software that helps Media programs like Windows Media Player decode different media formats eg DVD).
I download and installed three free Codec packs "K-Lite Codec Pack", "XP Codec Pack" & "DivX" from free-codecs.com they should be still located on the left side menu as quick links or in the main content section.
Also if you are going to play AVI media files you should install "DivX" playing AVI's without these will result in "video playback"
Hope this helps.
